We sat down with instructor Yaphiya, owner of Water Aquatics with a Twist, to talk all things Water Aerobics. Check it out here!
Tell us about your business and what makes your business unique in Memphis.
Well, it’s simple; water and most “African American Women” just don’t see eye to eye. The fear of getting our hair wet is dreadful! So, I’ve created some specialty moves just for this reason! A full-body workout that does not get your hair wet!
Does your business have any upcoming events that you want potential customers to be on the lookout for?
Yes!! my next class is Monday! 5pm to 6pm and 6pm to 7pm, Wednesday’s 6/7pm! Let’s go!!
We know business ownership comes with its own unique rewards and challenges alike. Is there anything you did to overcome any challenges you faced with your business? Are there any people you would like to recognize who have helped along the way?
Yes! All praises to the Most High God of Israel first and foremost! To my Husband who has been my supporter for the 20-plus years, I’ve been teaching, to Mike Redman, my first Water Aerobics instructor, and Pam Beecher the Aquatics Supervisor at the Hickory Hill community center. This would not have happened without their continued support.
Networking is everything in Memphis. What are a few black-owned businesses in Memphis that you patronize?
Oh wow! I’m always searching for ways to support my own. Here are a few:
Sage
Chef Tam’s Underground
Slim & Huskey’s
Bala’s Bistro
